Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans announced he will stop all foreclosure sales starting now.
Foreclosure by publication is the faster, cheaper alternative to judicial foreclosure in Michigan.
In what must be pure coincidence, Evans is running for mayor of Detroit, election next month.
His announced justification is that Federal law preempts state law, so the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or Bailout, part of which required the Secretary of the Treasury to implement a plan to mitigate foreclosures.
Evans moved a week after Governor Granholm stated she had no authority to implement a foreclosure moratorium.
I am in the business of stopping foreclosures through legal means, like Chapter 13 bankruptcy, and deplore this obviously illegal action taken purely as a ploy to get votes for the next job this clown wants.
Let’s address the foreclosure crisis by having Congress change the Chapter 13 law to help homeowners restructure mortgages, not by this arbitrary unconstitutional exercise of power.
